1847 BOCHARA MULBERRY STAFFORDSHIRE BLACK WILLOW IRONSTONE PLATE
This is one beautiful, RARE, circa 1847 English ironstone, ten inch plate. This Bochara Mulberry-Ware Black Willow Pattern Plate was manufactured by James Edwards, Dale Hall Works, Burslem, Staffordshire Potteries circa 1847.
The 12 sided dark edged plate is panelled and the rim design is divided into five parts by the gothic trianular shield that terminates in a fluer-de-lis at the top of the well. It has a wonderful flow black color and detail and is stamped with incised hallmarks of designer J.E. Bochara and manufacturer Edwards.
It features an Oriental black willow design/Chinoisere pattern with central bridge over a stream with two figures. On the left a pagoda with figures on a balcony, florals and tree branches scattered around. On the right, a large vase with flowers. The border has floral sprays between geometric motifs. It is a beautiful Oriental garden in springtime, with dogwoods and mulberry trees blooming.
